Breast Cancer Awareness Month

We are promoting Breast Cancer Awareness Month during October so look out for our Pink Ribbons around the Parish and at West Swindon Village Centres.

The pink ribbon, now an international symbol for breast cancer awareness, was introduced in 1992. Since then, during the month of October widespread efforts aim to raise awareness about signs and symptoms, promote early detection through self-examination, support those affected by breast cancer, including survivors, patients and their families and fund life-saving research.

Although relatively rare, breast cancer can develop in men. This is because men have breast tissue around the nipple area. There are around 390 men diagnosed each year in the UK.

Will You ‘Wear it Pink’ on October 24th?

Breast Cancer Now’s Wear it Pink Day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK. Every year, thousands of people wear pink for breast cancer to spread awareness of the disease, show support for people affected by breast cancer and to raise funds for life-saving research and life-changing support.
